Lehmanns Media GmbH übernimmt wesentliche Assets und Kundenbeziehungen der insolventen Mediengruppe Stein

Die Lehmanns Media GmbH gibt heute bekannt, dass sie ein rechtlich bindendes Angebot zur Übernahme wesentlicher immateriellen Vermögenswerte der insolventen Mediengruppe Stein abgegeben hat. Das Angebot richtet sich an den zukünftigen Insolvenzverwalter der Mediengruppe Stein und soll mit Eröffnung der Insolvenzverfahren durch den Insolvenzverwalter angenommen werden.
Die Transaktion zielt darauf ab, den Geschäftsbetrieb der betroffenen Gesellschaften im Umfang der Übernahme weitgehend zu sichern und die laufenden Kundenbeziehungen nahtlos fortzuführen, indem den Kunden eine nahtlose Fortsetzung angeboten wird. Die Übernahme umfasst insbesondere die digitalen Plattformen wie dem Network Learning Tool NELE, um so auch künftig in der Lage zu sein, den Kundenstamm folgender Gesellschaften der Mediengruppe Stein bedienen zu können:

– ciando GmbH mit QuoLibris, München

– A. Stein‘sche Mediengruppe GmbH, Werl
– A. Stein’sche Buchhandlung GmbH, Werl

Durch diese Transaktion soll die Betreuung der Kunden der Mediengruppe Stein umfassend
gesichert werden. Gleichzeitig sollen die Kunden von der breiten Expertise, der modernen
Infrastruktur und dem erweiterten Leistungsangebot der Lehmanns Media GmbH profitieren.
„Unser Ziel ist es, die Lieferanten- und Kundenbeziehungen der Mediengruppe Stein
langfristig zu sichern und ihnen Zugang zu neuen, innovativen Medien- und
Fachinformationslösungen zu bieten“, erklärt Christoph Bertling, Geschäftsführer der
Lehmanns Media GmbH.
Der vorläufige Insolvenzverwalter Dr. Mike Westkamp von der Kanzlei GÖRG zeigt sich
ebenfalls erfreut: „Die Fortführung der Kundenbeziehungen erhält das Herzstück der Gruppe
und wir sind zuversichtlich, dass die zuständigen Kartellbehörden kurzfristig eine Freigabe
erklären werden, damit die Kunden und alle weiteren Verfahrensbeteiligten Sicherheit
bekommen.“

Die Übernahme steht unter dem Vorbehalt der Zustimmung der zuständigen
Fusionskontrollbehörden und sonst üblicher Bedingungen.

den Partnern Norbert Bleibtreu-Busquets und Joern Herseth mit Team binnen vier Wochen
durchgeführt und erfolgreich zum Abschluss bringen können.

The future of purchasing: AI and digitalization in focus!

On May 13 and 14, 2025, around 1,000 specialists and managers from the fields of procurement, supply chain management and logistics gathered in Düsseldorf for the 16th BME eLÖSUNGSTAGEN - the industry get-together for digital procurement solutions. The focus was on the question: Is artificial intelligence in procurement just hype or already a decisive competitive advantage?
 
The discussions made it clear that many companies are not yet exploiting the potential of AI. Current BME surveys show that there is often a lack of strategic leadership, systematic implementation and a clear anchoring of AI initiatives in top management.
The message is clear: those who do not use artificial intelligence in a targeted and strategic manner risk falling behind the competition. This is because AI offers considerable efficiency gains - provided it is integrated into business processes in a sensible way.

UKSG - Review: Scientific communication in transition!

Open Access and AI were the central themes of this year's UKSG in the UK, where publishers and librarians came together, because academic communication has changed considerably in recent decades, not least due to rapid technological developments. Libraries, publishers and the concepts of open access and artificial intelligence (AI) in particular now play a central role in the exchange of knowledge.
Scientific communication is caught between tradition and innovation. Open access enables free access to knowledge, while artificial intelligence offers new ways to optimize scientific dialogue and the discovery of research results. Presentations and workshops opened up space for collaboration and discussion for all participants in order to promote transparent, accessible and efficient scientific communication.
We met customers from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, which resulted in informative and enriching discussions.

Review: The Austrian Library Congress 2025! “Democratic - Diverse - Sustainable”

From March 25 to 28, the congress took place in the modern premises of the Austria Center in Vienna. Regardless of size, location or financial conditions, all participants pursued a common goal: to offer an open and lively library.
The vision: “Democratic - Diverse - Sustainable” was filled with life. The varied program included specialist presentations for academic and public libraries. For public libraries in particular, there were exciting lecture series on the topics of democracy, diversity, community building and participation, supplemented by national and international practical examples.
There was also a focus on artificial intelligence, library management, gender issues, sustainability and library training. In addition, interactive workshops offered the opportunity to try out innovative ideas in practice.

DCK 2025 - 142nd German Congress of Surgery: Review!

Current research findings and technological innovations were presented and discussed at the congress, which also gave visitors the opportunity to network. As a result, new professional contacts were made and existing relationships strengthened.
The practice-oriented workshops and hands-on courses were a particular highlight, giving young surgeons in particular the opportunity to apply modern techniques directly and develop their skills in a targeted manner.
 
In this context, our colleague Moritz Wagner was on site representing the Stein media group and presented our new product, the “Journal of Medical Insights”.

Exciting, informative and enriching!

- Congress Care 2025 in Berlin!

Under the motto: “Shaping the future - goal-oriented action”, the Nursing Congress took place from 24.01. - 25.01.2025 at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin.
The weekend was filled with discussions, presentations and meetings on all aspects of care, with a focus on professional changes in the sector.
On the first evening of the congress, specialists were presented with the Nursing Management Award for their outstanding leadership and social skills. In addition, the award winners developed exemplary solutions for everyday stress management and stress reduction.
The award was presented by the German Nursing Management Association in cooperation with the congress organizer Springer Pflege.
For our colleagues Natalie Richter and Jens Rensing, who were present, it was an informative weekend with many enriching conversations, through which they were able to inspire potential customers for the company.

AnkosLink 2024: Artificial intelligence and academic libraries

This year, the AnkosLink Conference took place from November 18 - 21 at the Granada Luxury Belek Congress Center in Antalya. Over 500 participants and around 60 companies came together at Turkey's most important publishing and library event. A network of national and international university libraries, public libraries, academics, publishers and information and technology companies met at the three-day event to discuss relevant topics such as the impact of artificial intelligence on university libraries, changing teaching methods, increasing access to information, research evaluation systems, the importance of consortial studies, open science and open access. Development prospects in the field of publishing in the form of new learning platforms, sharing economics and sharing models were examined in more detail. The rapid digital growth requires flexibility and new solutions in the professional field of academic librarians.
Our colleagues Ferda Warnecke and Hacer Cimen were positive about the interest shown by new customers - including from Azerbaijan - and the discussions with existing customers. There was also high demand for our new platform, the STEIN Portal, which will be launched successively from next year.

70th anniversary of the BME!

The BME Symposium from November 13-15 in Berlin was a successful event at all levels. New insights into the areas of purchasing, logistics and supply chain were gained and the future of the profession was examined.
 
The focus was on the question of how procurement can help shape the future more successfully, taking into account the uncertain times and technological leaps forward. The transformation process of indirect procurement was also examined, with strategic procurement replacing the order office and the possibilities of how AI can be used to solve problems in procurement were considered. Not forgetting the conditions of the Supply Chain Act and the question of how comprehensive risk management can be designed with added value and benefits.
 
Around 1,500 participants and almost 200 speakers as well as 120 partners and sponsors were on site. The procurement community also celebrated the BME's 70th anniversary!
 
Our colleague Bonnie Lewerang and colleagues Michael Borgers and Moritz Wagner were there on behalf of Mediengruppe Stein and, in addition to interesting and informative discussions, were able to learn about innovative solutions and new opportunities.

Exciting insights at German Nursing Day 2024!

From November 7 - 8, we attended the German Nursing Day in Berlin. Under the motto: “PflegeZeigtHaltung”, the event was organized by representatives of the industry for nursing professionals. The focus was on dialog and the further development of nursing care in Germany and the role of the nursing profession in society. In addition, joint solutions were developed to meet the challenges.
 
Our colleague Natalie Richter and our colleague Jens Rensing were on site and were impressed by the interest shown by nurses, teachers and, above all, young people. In the area of education, the demand for specialist literature for studies and training was very high. Constructive feedback was left by school administrators and care services. There was a sense of community throughout the event. Our colleagues from Sales were heavily involved due to our well-attended stand and were able to hold many informative discussions.

The BME's Purchasing and Logistics Symposium enters the next round

From November 13-15, the 59th Purchasing and Logistics Symposium of the German Association of Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics will take place at the STATION-Berlin event location. Over three days, around 1,300 participants, over 160 speakers and around 100 exhibitors will come together for networking. The key topics of “Procurement4Future - AI in procurement”, “SME offensive”, “Sourcing strategies 2030” and “Supply chain excellence” will be discussed, debated and worked on in a solution-oriented manner.
What makes the symposium so special is that the variety of perspectives on show means that every participant can learn something new and take away inspiration for their day-to-day work to improve their own business processes.

Good music, a festive atmosphere and plenty of sunshine: at TU Dortmund University's Summer Party 2024

On June 27, students and employees of TU Dortmund University, along with their families and friends, celebrated the summer festival to the fullest under a bright sun as part of the "I am TU / We are TU" campaign.
 
The various stands of faculties, student councils and institutions were interactive and creative. Frozen roses made of liquid nitrogen that could be shattered, running through a parkour with an exoskeleton or watching soccer robots scoring goals live were just some of the items on the program.
 
Live bands, TU ensembles, DJs, dance groups and the TU cheerleading team enchanted the audience with a wide variety of shows.
At our stand, students and other visitors were able to play table tennis, buy BVB-TU scarves and cool off with water pistols.

On June 26, 2024, our colleagues completed the company run at Lake Möhnesee with full commitment - despite weather-related challenges - at 28° with flying colors. The cheering on of motivating spectators from our logistics, bookstore, sales and customer service departments also contributed to the good mood of our hard-working runners.
 
Refreshments included ice-cold drinks and tasty treats. The pavilion provided plenty of shade and relaxation. Our colleague Maren gave a live interview to Hellweg Radio and the mayor also stopped by for a chat and wished the team every success.
 
We are delighted with the successful run and would like to thank all spectators and participants for a great time!

Advotec highlights at the German Lawyers' Day 2024!

Advotec, the large trade exhibition at the German Lawyers' Day in Bielefeld, took place from 06th to 07th of July.2024
 
The event was characterized by exciting opportunities to exchange ideas about new products and services from banks, consulting firms, education providers, specialist publishers and Lega-Tech companies. In addition, exhibitors such as software providers, start-ups, associations and insurance companies provided input for informative news and suggestions for innovative solutions.

Procurement Congress of Hospitals from 13th to 14th of May 2024 in Berlin: Review!

Also this year, leading experts, decision-makers and practitioners from the healthcare sector have come together for discussions and presentations on the challenges and developments in the procurement sector for medical products, services and technologies. With a focus on procurement and logistics for better healthcare, the congress has proven to be a stable foundation in the DACH region in recent years with regard to procurement, logistics and IT in healthcare.
 
The following key topics characterized the discussions regarding structural reforms between procurement practice, science and politics:
• huge challenges due to demographic change
• greater efficiency urgently needed for far-reaching restructuring
• fewer hospital locations and therefore more concentration of services
• more outpatient services are required
• Large number of inpatient stays is no longer sustainable in terms of personnel
 
Around 100 visitors attended this year's procurement congress in Berlin.

Coupa Inspire 2024 EMEA took place from June 4 - 6 at the Austria Center in Vienna.
 
Cross-industry experts in finance, procurement, supply chain, IT and treasury, international speakers and lots of innovative input shaped the event. The use of AI-supported solutions to increase efficiency and reduce risks were among the core topics.
 
Coupa offers transformation opportunities for companies and various processes to integrate new approaches to business performance, profitability and growth.
 
Highlights included keynotes, breakout sessions and special networking opportunities where attendees could learn from best practices and success stories from the Coupa community.

Mediengruppe Stein at BiblioCon 2024 in the Congress Center Hamburg

Of course, we were also represented at this year's BiblioCon with our channel LIBRARIES Librarians and information professionals met at the Congress Center Hamburg from June 4 to 7 under the motto offen.lokal.global.

 
We wanted to make our contribution in the areas of education, knowledge transfer, reading and the promotion of democracy and presented our library services. Annette Fürhoff, Thorsten Kasuch and Oliver Mätzel were on site and held many open discussions.
The integration of Massmann into the media group attracted a great deal of interest, but topics such as open access (licensing models, financing, administrative costs in the libraries, etc.) and the new FOLIO library management system were also discussed intensively.

STEIN Expansion

Our portfolio in the library business is expanding!

Since 01.04.2024 we welcome Massmann GmbH. Based in Hamburg, Massmann is our second location in the Hanseatic city alongside ims.
 
The company was founded in 1989 by the booksellers Dorothea and Kay Massmann in Hamburg and has since been exclusively responsible as a family-run company for corporate customers as well as university and research libraries in German-speaking countries. The company specializes in the procurement of monographs from national and international publishers. The range of services also includes a large journal department and the licensing of e-books (via Proquest e-Book Central and the publishers) and databases.
 
With the acquisition of Massmann GmbH, we are expanding our portfolio in the library business. Many years of experience and great commitment characterize the quality of the bookshop. The professional service is reflected in various features:
  • Fast and effective response to changes in the procurement and sales market
  • Online status reports on current orders and subscriptions
  • the flexible Massmann Approval Plan
  • the takeover of outsourcing projects

STEIN Expansion

New addition to the channel: Law!

SinceJanuary 1, 2024 Deubner Medien belongs to Stein media group. Our location radar has thus expanded to include Cologne. This acquisition expands the area of law.
 
Deubner Medien can look back on more than 200 years of company history. The Cologne-based company was initially run purely as a specialist bookshop and was expanded in 1998 by Managing Director Kay Deubner to include the specialist book service of the same name. In 2014, the company was finally renamed DEUBNER MEDIEN in order to present itself as a digital and future-oriented company.
 
Our product portfolio of our law channel is thus growing from traditional print media to online databases, e-books, seminars and webinars.
The ongoing expansion of MGS is heading towards the goal of becoming one of the leading providers in the specialist information trade. We now have 16 locations within Germany and four international locations in the USA, Norway, France and Turkey.
