Event information

The first German Librarians' Day took place in Marburg in 1900. Since then, this largest national training event in the German-speaking world has been held annually. Originally, this conference was restricted to librarians in academic libraries, but librarians in public libraries have also been included for a long time.

In 2023, the German Librarians' Day was renamed BiblioCon.

BiblioCon is organized by the Verein Deutscher Bibliothekarinnen und Bibliothekare e.V. (VDB) and the Berufsverband Information Bibliothek e.V. (BIB).

The Congress for Information and Libraries, organized by Bibliothek & Information Deutschland (BID), takes place every third year. This is also the BiblioCon in the respective year, which otherwise takes place annually (with the exception of 2003 due to the IFLA conference in Germany and 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic) in May or June in different German cities.
